Social Recreation Services
Leisure and recreational activities help everyone to relax and to balance the pressure and stress of daily routines. Individuals with disabilities are no different. The ARC of Oswego County offers recreation services to people with disabilities so that they, too, can relax and have fun with friends. This person-centered service allows individuals opportunities to pursue activities of interest and to develop new recreational outlets as well.

.

Eligibility:
Individuals must reside in Oswego County, and be 18 years of age
or older.

The Staff:
Staff members work on a part-time basis, and have diverse backgrounds, and interests. All staff have training and experience with persons with disabilities.

Transportation:
Consumers must be brought to a central pick up point for some activities. In other cases, transportation may be provided one way, and someone must either drop off or pick the person up. If the consumer cannot be brought to a pickup point or to an event, staff will make every effort to work out a solution.

The Activities:
Services are person-centered, and activities are selected by consumers and their families based on their interests, and preferences. Activities are developed to enhance independence and to promote community inclusion. Socialization with others, and friendships abound! Activities are conducted on an individual basis.

Opportunities include a golf league, bowling league, overnight camping, sports events like WWE wrestling, and Syracuse Sky Chiefs games, dances, concerts, etc. Activities occur weeknights and weekends so that work and other day programs are not interrupted.

The Cost:
Consumers are responsible for the costs associated with the activity in which they are participating.
