Medicaid Service Coordination
Medicaid Service Coordination (MSC) is a Medicaid State Plan service provided by the Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities which assists persons with mental retardation and developmental disabilities in gaining access to necessary services and supports. MSC is provided by qualified coordinators and uses a person centered planning process. MSC promotes individual choice, individualized services and supports, and consumer satisfaction.

What is the role of the Medicaid Service Coordinator?

The MSC helps explore whet the person wants and needs in life, and then assists them in getting it. The activities of the MSC fall into three general categories

Individualized Service Planning

Advocating

Record Keeping

Who is eligible for MSC?

A person must meet all of the following criteria:

Must be enrolled in Medicaid.

•Must have a documented diagnosis of mental retardation or
developmental disability.

•Must demonstrate a need for ongoing and comprehensive service coordination.

•Must choose to receive MSC.

•Must not permanently live in an ICF, Developmental Center, Psychiatric Hospital, Small Residential Unit, Nursing Facility, Hospital, or any other Medicaid funded institutional setting that provides service coordination.

•Must not be enrolled in another comprehensive Medicaid long- term care Service Coordination (e.g. Long-term home Health Care).
